Amazing village that appears frozen in time. I went in the summer, but would love to return when it's snowing. Definitely stop at the rest stop above the village for some pictures.
Best time to shoot the village from vantage will b at least an hour before sunset, lest the mountain covers the valley in shadow. Also do visit the river bed near entrance if you are into photography.
I love it when there are not so many tourists (around 16.00, tourists start to leave). If you spend a night here, do walk around a bit at night. There are million stars under the sky!
The name of the village means “The village of the white river”. Very pretty place. If you are staying in Takayama take a Jhopptour buss with guided tour. It’s the same price as just a buss ticket.
